Last week I had an inspiring conversation with travel and tourism consultant Anna Pollock, whose work I have long admired from afar. What a reward to be inspired by the level of passion, compassion and expertise among one’s colleagues!
Founder of Desticorp and author of the Conscious tourism blog, Anna has been a consultant in the field for more than 40 years and has been an early adopter and proponent of responsible tourism. Anna and I have yet to meet face-to-face but here’s our recent skype conversation that runs the gamut from the development of tourism in Bali to the surge of interest in the practicalities of running tourism businesses without having a negative impact. Anna identifies a paradigm shift coming from the grassroots, rippling from various sectors as an inspired agent of change.
Three key questions raised by Anna in this short chat:
How can we insure that tourism does more good than harm?
Are we being honest enough about the negative consequences of tourism?
How much growth is sustainable?
