Making QR Codes Fun

City Parks QR Code 06.2011 (New Zealand)

Here’s my friend Miguel modeling the latest in qr code (that’s ‘quick response’) fashion. You may have these graphics on posters or business cards, or maybe not. Here in Oaxaca, they’re very new.

Personally I find it easy to explain new technologies by making them fun -- in this case, a mask! Also, when explaining to locals what qr code is all about, I ask if they want to know the boring true story or the much more interesting tale that these images are actually newly interpreted Zapotec glyphs. Either way I get to point out the app on the smartphone.
